The Alleghany Mountaineers (11-5) varsity baseball team had lost its previous two games and was starring at a five run deficit and only two outs left in the game.
The Floyd County Buffaloes all but wrapped up the game.
Then on an 1-0 pitch to Jackson Ross (1-for-5), Ross smacked the ball to left field that plated one run to cut the lead down to four runs at 10-6.
It was a sign of new life for the Mounties.
The Mounties now had pair of runners on base and just had their third hit of the inning.
Several batters later after cutting the score down to one run, Hunter DePriest (1-for-3) hit a ball to right field that would plate Anthony Webb (2-for-4), the games tying run.
A cheerful Mounties crowd could not believe what they witnessed. The Mounties who down to their final two outs and trailing by five runs came back and tied the game.
In extra innings, after Conner McPeek (W, 2-for-4)) shut down the Buffaloes on just six pitched in the top half of the inning, the Mounties found themselves with the bases loaded and two outs. Webb, who scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning, was the hero once again as he crushing a single to center field that scored Andrew Middleton (0-for-5) to win the game 11-10.
Webb, who started the game for the Mounties, struggled in his outing as gave up eight runs (five earned) on nine hits in his four innings pitched in. However, Webb, made it up with his bat and his legs as he collected two hits in four at bats, while driving in three and scoring the games tying run in the seventh.
The Mounties hit the ball well in the win. The team put together a 14-hit day. The Mounties had five players with two hits or more. Garrett Via (3-for-4) and Eli Weese (3-for-4), each had three-hit performances.
The Buffaloes let one slip by. The team scored six runs in the second inning which gave them a 6-1 lead. They then scored a run in each of the third and fourth innings to take an 8-3 lead after the Mounties scored two in the second. The Mounties were destined to rally all the way back. They did so all game long just by chipping away at each deficit as it grew.
