Covington City Public Schools and Alleghany County Public Schools continued to show their support of law enforcement officers and first responders by delivering “Dear Hero Bags” on Friday, March 25.
Bags containing snacks were delivered to the Covington Division of Police, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, the Covington Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the Virginia State Police office in Low Moor, the Clifton Forge Police Department, and Covington City Hall.
Covington School Superintendent Melinda Snead-Johnson and Edgemont Primary School Principal Cindy Morgan participated in the deliveries, along with school division employees who have spouses serving in law enforcement or emergency services. The project was coordinated at Edgemont Primary School.
Law enforcement officers, first responders and Covington City Hall employees are still coping with a March 14 shooting incident that resulted in the death of Covington Police Officer Caleb Ogilvie. He is the first Covington Police officer to die in the line of duty.
“We prepared these bags for all of these folks in recognition of what they do for us. They always come when we need them and this is just a small token of our appreciation,” said Snead-Johnson.
