On Tuesday, the Lady Mounties (1-1) rallied from a run down in their final at bats to walk-off on a game-winning two-run double by Kinsey Middleton.
However, on Thursday, there would be no comeback from the Lady Mounties as the team fell to the Wilson Memorial Hornets 15-11.
The Hornets scored in every inning except the second inning, which was the lone inning the Lady Mounties took their only lead.
With the score tied 6-6, the Hornets scored six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 12-6 lead. Elise Bradley (3-for-3), had three RBI’s during their scoring run in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Hornets continued to build their lead after adding another run in the top of the sixth inning on a A Ross RBI double to put them ahead 13-6.
Trailing by seven runs entering the home half of the sixth inning, the Lady Mounties began to chip away at the lead by putting up a four-run spot in the sixth. Three of the Lady Mounties four runs in the inning came on walks with the bases loaded. Middleton (1-for-3) and Kelsey Nicely (2-for-4), each reached base on an error. Caylee Stevens (W) for the Hornets, would walk the next four batters while bringing in three runs to score which cut the lead down to 13-9. Makenzie Kimberlin (1-for-4), was the fourth run to cross the plate in the inning for the Lady Mounties after a fielder’s choice ground out by Daphne Shinault (0-for-4).
After seeing their lead of seven runs be trimmed down to three, the Hornets grabbed two big runs back in the top half of the seventh inning coming with two outs. Rachel Baucom (3-for-6), ripped a two-run single off of Shinault that put the Hornets back ahead by five runs at 15-10.
Down five runs entering their final at bats, Middleton, who walked to start the inning, scored on an RBI double by Emalee Philips (2-for-4). With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Reagan Frazier would get Kimberlin to ground out to end the game.
The Lady Mounties had four batters with two hits a piece. Nicely, finished the game with a two-hit, two RBI performance, including a home run, her first of the season. Kimberlin, led the Lady Mounties with three RBI’s. E. Phillips and Kendell Keene (1-for-4), each added two RBI’s.
In the loss, the Lady Mounties used three pitchers. Keene, who took the start, lasted two innings while giving up two runs (both earned) on four hits and walked two. Averi Phillips (L) suffered the loss, pitching in 2.1 innings, while surrendering nine runs (six earned) on eight hits. A. Phillips, did strike out four batters. Shinault, gave up four runs (all earned) in 2.2 innings.
Stevens, got the win for the Hornets despite giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Stevens, did strike out a game-high five batters.
Bradley, led the way on offense for the Hornets with a three-hit performance and a game-high five RBI’s. The Hornets offense put together 18 hits in the win. The team finished with four batters with three hits each.
The Lady Mounties will be on the road for the first time this season on Tuesday against Pocahontas County.
