Congress Begins Study Of President’s Plea For Aid To Greece and Turkey: Some Fear War With Soviet Will Result”
Sharply conscious that it may be plunging the United States and Russia into harsher political strife, Congress took up today President Truman’s plea for actual money and indirect military help for Greece and Turkey.

Amtrak Running Short Of Funds, Ask Help
Less than a year after taking over most of the nation’s intercity passenger train service. Amtrak is running out of money faster than Congress expected. Amtrak, the National Railroad Passenger Corp., is fighting for $170 million more in federal help to survive at least until mid-1973.

Bath County Supervisors Approve Jail Pact
The Bath County Board of Supervisors has approved an agreement to house prisoners in a new jail facility in downtown Covington. The board, after tabling action in February to allow its auditors to review the contract, voted Tuesday night to join Covington, Alleghany County and Clifton Forge in the new jail venture.
Localities Facing $4.2 Million Sewer System Upgrades
Clifton Forge and Alleghany County are staring at wastewater-treatment system upgrades that could cost $4.2 million. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality wants the city and county to ratify an agreement to address sewage-overflow problems. A draft of the plan, presented to City Council Tuesday night, says the problems must be corrected within five years.
